The most probable reason for this could be that you clicked outside the text box area and a particular object has come in front of the text. Your text has gone into the background and the object has come into the foreground. To resolve this, select the particular object, click on the “Send Back” icon from the Toolbar and the text will come before the object.

Q. How can I bring the image or inserted Text to the front?

Select the particular image from the left or right side and click on the “Send Backward” icon from the Toolbar. The image should now appear on top of the background.

Q. How can I add an image to the card design template?

When you wish to add an image to the current card design, all you have to do is Click on the “Insert Image” button. An image dialog box will appear. Click on the browse button to locate the image file from your computer. Click upload and your selected image will automatically upload to the present card design template. Our Business card template designs accept only .gif, .jpeg, .png image formats.
NOTE: The image you upload will be ANALYZED by the program importing the image to make sure it is at least 300 DPI.  If it is LESS than 300 DPI it will TELL you so, and your print quality will NOT be guaranteed.  You want to have an image that is at least 300 DPI so the print will be clear….otherwise it might come out fuzzy / unclear. Kindly note, if you wish to obtain superior image quality on your business cards you need to consider the following aspects
  • Ripcard allows only JPEG, JPG, or PNG image formats
  • All uploaded files should be RGB format
  • Transparent PNG image files should be in “8-bit, indexed colored” format
  • For superior quality print, images should be either 300 dpi or more.
Q. How can I fade or make my image Transparent?

Firstly upload your image from the “Insert Image” Tool box. Select the image so that you will see a RED border around it. Click on the “Fade Image” button and your image will be faded in to the background.  Certain images will not be faded all the way in to the background and you must also give it some time when you click on the “-“ minus button as this is all taking place in your browser and it needs time to react.
If you want it more faded in to the background, we suggest manipulating the image in a photo shop type program.

Q. What is the role of the rectangular dotted lines?

When you start the business card design editor, you will notice a template with two RED colored dotted rectangles and a single BLUE colored vertical line in the center of the template. The outer red rectangle represents the approximate business card dimension. This rectangle is quite helpful in containing your design in the given print parameters. The inner RED and BLACK colored dotted rectangle denotes the safety area. All the designs, shapes, images, text, etc inserted in this area will be safely printed. To ensure all your design work is printed, make sure you restrict design only up to the dotted line.  Besides, you will be “pushed inside” the Red colored dotted lines and you are ONLY allowed to get as close as the Red Square that is around either your Text or the image you are working with.

OTHER QUESTIONS

Q. How can I learn how to use the Editor?

If you go to “Video Demo” – this link is located in a couple of places – you will see several Tutorials both for how to use the Editor as well as how you can interact with the cards.  You can find it inside the Editor (“Design Card” link) or you can find it under the links on the left side (once you are passed the Home Page) named: “How it Works” or “Design My Own RipCard”.  Just click on any of the two last links where there is a pull down menu and you will see “Video Demo”.

Q. What is the actual size of the business card and what is the displayed size on the artwork design template?

In actuality the business card approximately has 3.5” width and 2.25” height. 3.5” is the Standard Width of a regular Business Card.  The height of 2.25” is .25 higher than a regular business card.  So they will still fit in most wallets and card holders. The size displayed on the artwork design template is twice the actual print size. This is basically to assist you in getting a better view of the business card and get a better understanding of the print size.

Q. What is Display Mode?

To enable our members in designing the perfect business card, we have included three basic modes which can be located inside the Editor (where you design the cards) via a Pull Down Menu named “Display Mode”
  • Normal Mode – Used while designing the artwork
  • Grid Mode – Useful in viewing the artwork in grid format as well as strategically placing objects and shapes on the artwork while knowing / seeing what is the Middle of the card and also the Middle of Half of the card.  This is a really practical tool.  However, if you have a large image on top of the card, you might not be able to see the Grid Mode / Lines as well.
  • Safety Mode – Shows the Safety Lines and helps in aligning text, shapes, etc according to the Cut Line
Safety lines are also useful to “Push your text or images” closest to the safety line demarcation. Take into consideration that making Red Outline around the text or images closer to the text or images, could cut them off during the printing process. Moreover, you would also need to look at the result of your artwork using the Zoom Artwork Button to get a better print preview of your artwork.

Q. How can I resize the images in their actual height X width proportion?

To keep the height and width of the image intact, drag the image diagonally by clicking on the image while holding down the shift key. This is done a LITTLE different in the Browser window than what you might be used to from before…You will actually NOT grab the corners in this case, but Simply Press down the Shift Key when you have your Cursor on the actual image and then drag either way diagonally. This will resize the selected image in its original height X width proportion.

Q. How can I make use of the Sample templates and insert them in my artwork?

To use a predefined sample template or inset templates, click on the “Sample Templates” from the horizontal menu icon or even from the link in the left Navigation bar named “Design My Own RipCard” and then select “Sample Templates to Use”. You will be directed to a webpage with a list of categories of all the available templates. Choose the category of your choice and insert the subsequent template. These templates can be edited to include your company logos, designs, text, etc. and will save you a lot of time.

Select the image or text so it has a Red Border around it and click on “Copy” icon from the horizontal tool box. Or, you can also go to the Edit Menu and select the Copy option. You can also use the Copy (Ctrl+C) option from the Edit Menu.

Q. How can I paste images or text?

After using the Cut or Copy function, you can paste the image or text using the “Paste” icon from the horizontal tool box. Or, you can also use the Paste (Ctrl+V) option from the Edit Menu

Q. How do I undo my last action?

You can click the Undo button numerous times, based on which action you wish to undo. You can also use the Undo (Ctrl+Z) option from the Edit Menu.

Q. How Do I REDO my action?

If you wish to redo your last action on the business card artwork Editor, click on REDO icon from the horizontal Tool bar. You can click the Redo button numerous times, based on which action you wish to Redo. You can also use the Redo (Ctrl+R) option from the Edit Menu.

Q. How do I bring my text or images, Shapes to Front/foreground?

If you wish to bring the selected text, images or Shapes on the upper layer, click on the “Bring to Front” icon on the horizontal tool bar. Instantaneously the selected object will appear right on top of the overlapping object by one position.  Note that the way you leave this screen / image, is the way it will print out.  That being said, you should ALLWAYS view your finished file after you are done with the designing of it, in the “Zoom Artwork” Button or from within your “My Artwork” area via the “Click here to Download and View finished file” since this is the way it will be printed out.

Q. How do I send text, images, shapes to back layer?

If you wish to send your selected text, images or Shapes to the back layer, click on the “Send to Back” icon on the horizontal tool bar. Within a few seconds, the selected object will appear at the back of the overlapping object by one position.

Q.How useful is the “Send Backward” button? Is it different from the “Send to Back” button?

When you click on the “Send Backward” button, the currently selected text, image or shape is sent to the backmost layer on top of the background color or any image placed on the back.

The difference between “Send Backward” and “Send to back” and is that “Send Backward” will push the particular layer to be placed as the very last layer, on top of the background color or any image that has been placed there; Whereas, “Send to Back” will shift the particular selected object backward only by one layer position per click.
That being said, you should ALLWAYS view your finished file after you are done with the designing of it, in the “Zoom Artwork” Button or from within your “My Artwork” area via the “Click here to Download and View finished file” since this is the way it will be printed out.
